Editorial Reviews
Dr. E.L. Widmer, Professor, Early Childhood and Dean [Retired], Florida Atlantic University
If children learn what they live, and we know they do, then Love Notes is an open sesame invitation to families with young children. The recipe-type approach in the series of eight books provides hands-on experiences with language and print drawn from the children's everyday environment. It recognizes the need for stimulating, imaginative, adventurous, and above all deeply satisfying forays into the language rich world of letters and sounds. What we do for our young in these impressionable early years has vast significance for their development. Research indicates that loving, caring relationships between parents or parent surrogates and their children encourage all areas of growth. Sensitivity to children's needs can emerge during private times which are integral to the unfolding of the Notes themselves. The unveiling of new vistas via language and print is a powerful boost to mental development and a firm case for success in scholastic achievement since language arts impinges on every area of the school curriculum. Love Notes is a nourishing, creative foundation-builder for language experience, and a worthy resource for caring families

Book Description
Love Notes: First Books gives parents, grandparents, caregivers, and the community-at-large, a number of "tried and true" techniques that help prepare children to become enthusiastic, able readers. Since we are educators and parents ourselves, we know there are many resources available for young readers. However, what makes our books unique is that we present ideas and concepts that are specifically designed for the toddler/preschooler/kindergarten-aged child. We use a simple user-friendly approach, initially explaining educational fundamentals and then applying them in innovative and instructional ways. We recommend that caregivers work within the framework of a child's current language ability and experience to write books together, create stories, and continue developing language skills. We have found over the years that this positive, experiential approach fosters creativity, boosts confidence, and engages inquisitive minds. Furthermore, we have found that caregivers who share in the joy of learning to read with their children create life-long memories that everyone treasures.
