Book Description
Legions of friends, coconspirators, neighbors, editors, and drinking buddies tell the story -- as only now it can be told -- of the late, legendary writer's greatest creation: his own mythic life

From Hell's Angels Maximum Leader Sonny Barger to President Clinton's national security advisor Sandy Berger, Hunter Thompson's collection of friends helped fulfill the "ancient Chinese curse" he was fond of quoting: "May you live in interesting times." Here, more than one hundred of them speak out, many for the first and only time, to tell of a life lived in the Passing Lane. Gonzo delivers the outrageous stories, but through its myriad voices presents an even more shocking realization: that the legendary Rolling Stone writer and author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, among many other works, was, if anything, vastly more complicated, multifaceted, tormented, and talented than any previous rendering has shown. A cast of characters from Pat Buchanan to Marilyn Manson, from his high school friends in Louisville to his widow at Woody Creek's Owl Farm, and such well-known names as Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, and Anjelica Huston -- as well as never-before-heard revelations from his exwife, his longtime assistant, and his son, Juan -- deliver the wisdom on the man Tom Wolfe called "the 20th century's greatest comic writer in English."

Gonzo's cast of characters includes: --Ed Bradley --Jimmy Buffett --President Jimmy Carter --James Carville --Benicio Del Toro --Johnny Depp
