In the Shadow of the Rising Sun

Boisclaire and Davis walk the razors edge in telling this amazing account of survival. It was a brutal story under the most difficult conditions anyone could be subjected to. Boisclaire has a rare sense of duty, and I am glad she pursued Davis and wrote this book. Her medical descriptions of the rampant highly contagious diseases and those brought on by dietary deficiencies caught my eye in particular. I have taught anatomy and physiology for over 35 years and her descriptions were perfect--I dont believe I have every seen summaries as neat as those she slipped between the pages. Such a wrenching piece that I read the book in one day. It was like watching a mystery story on TV. I knew Davis was going to survive, but how close he came to dying in the day to day struggle has haunted me.
