Mort Künstler's Civil War: The South
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Mort Kunstler has painted so many Confederate subjects that even though he was born in Brooklyn, New York, he is often called a Southern artist. "This," he says, "I accept with pride."
This volume takes the viewer on a gallery tour of some of Kunstler's favorite Confederate subjects. Winchester, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg are all brought to life through his vivid use of color, light and shadow, and movement. In the accompanying text, the artist describes each painting, from concept to finished work.
Of the twenty-three paintings collected here, eight have never been published in any book. "All of the paintings," explains Kunstler, "are done with a reverence for detail, authenticity, and most of all, the people of this most American of all wars."
