Bouquets From The Cannon's Mouth: Soldiering With The Eighth Regiment Of The Pennsylvania Reserves
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
The Pennsylvania Reserves were unique in the Army of the Potomac, consisting entirely of men from the Keystone State. Focusing primarily on five young volunteers who served with the Reserves' Eighth Regiment, the author tells the story of the regiment and the legendary division it belonged to. From the Seven Days Battles to the siege of Petersburg, where four of the volunteers were captured and sent to the Confederate prison at Salisbury, Bouquets from the Cannon's Mouth immerses the reader in the heartbreak of the Civil War. Incorporating two rare prison diaries, one never before published, ten maps, six appendices, and numerous photographs, this book, as Edwin C. Bearss notes in his foreword, is for those "who savor the soldiers' story."
