Book Description
Based on real characters close to Libby Brahms -- her mother and father --this historical romance is rooted in real events. Set in 1905 during pre-Revolutionary Czarist Russia, a time of great unrest in that country, Czar Nicholas II and his regime exiled Brahms' mother to Siberia for teaching peasants to read "...a severe crime then." said Brahms. "My mother had just met my father, home from the Russian-Japanese War, three days before her arrest. They were married in Archangel, closest big city to the North Pole, upon her release" said Brahms.
About the Author
Libby Brahms, South San Francisco, California, was born on Halloween, 1912, in Newton, Iowa...the same year and the same town that birthed the first motorized Maytag Washer. As a child she experienced a terrible encounter with what was then a dangerous machine with the gears, belts, and pulleys exposed below the tub. This encounter triggered her first chapbook, First Washing Machine.
However, Brahms did not start writing until very late in life, age 70, triggered by the birth of her great-grandson. Never thinking beyond the classroom and the sheer fun of writing, it came as a delightful surprise to be accepted by many publishers and to receive top awards.
Now 88, she also teaches an exercise class to seniors, believes her lifestyle of exercise and a proper diet is the key to survival with a quality life, especially for writers.
In 1954, she and her husband, Hy, moved to California.
